The UK government has changed the subsidies for solar electricity generation. From August 1st this year the subsidy from the goverment drops substantially when more than 50kW of solar photovoltaic panels are installed. So how big is a 50kW installation?
We’ve collected some images of solar panel installations together with the amount of installed power so you can get an idea of the sizes of different setups.
House 1: 4.4kW installed power
House 2: 11.7kW installed power
Solar Power Plant: 50kW installed power
Working it out for your home
A typical solar panel generates between 180 and 225 Watts of power (called ‘Peak Power’). So if you want to install 2kW – equivalent to 2,000Watts – of solar power on your roof with solar panel power of 200 Watts each you would need 10 solar panels. A standad solar panel is around 0.8m wide by 1.6m high.
